Dr. Mark Bolton, DVM
Dr. Bolton is the owner of Simcoe Veterinary Hospital. He was born and raised in Shanty Bay and attended Eastview High School in Barrie. He grew up with many of pets and spent a lot of time working on neighbouring farms. He enjoyed helping the animals and had hopes of becoming a surgeon. In high school, Dr. Bolton worked at clinics and traveled to different farms with large animal veterinarians, where he performed various farms duties, including milking cows. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Guelph before attending the Ontario Veterinary College.
As one of our veterinarians, Dr. Bolton keeps our patients healthy and performs examinations, gives vaccines, and does wellness blood testing and parasite prevention. He also treats sick animals and performs surgery as well as dental cleanings and surgical extractions of teeth. Dr. Bolton has attended many extra courses on general and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and oral surgery. He feels most fulfilled performing a complicated surgery or successfully completing a difficult dental case. Watching the pets go on to heal well and be comfortable is very rewarding for him.
Dr. Bolton and his wife, Dr. Schmidt, have two kids, Lauren and Carter. They also have a Doberman named Stella, a donkey named Moritz, and two ponies named Foxy and Scout. But Dr. Bolton’s favourite pet is his guinea pig named Twinkle Toes. The family enjoys working around the farm, boating and swimming in the summer, and skiing and tobogganing in the winter.
