Dr. Katrin Schmidt, DVM

Dr. Katrin Schmidt is the hospital administrator and chief veterinary director of Simcoe Veterinary hospital. She is in charge of making sure all team members understand their impact on the client and pet experience to ensure a better outcome for all. She has always had a passion for medicine, science, and technology. As a constant learner, she enjoys educating and coaching others. Veterinary medicine seemed just a little bit more challenging than human medicine or computer science.

Born and raised in Germany in a rural mountain setting, Dr. Schmidt enjoyed horseback riding and country living at an early age. As a teenager, she lived in Dallas, Texas, and Hudson, Quebec. She spent most of her childhood working with animals, including horses. Training horses exposed her to many of the behaviour principles we apply to most species, including humans. Her interest and experience in solving complex problems with new and unique ways led her to attend the Veterinary College in Guelph.

Since graduating with a BSc. in 1991 and DVM in 1993, Dr. Schmidt, with Dr. Bolton, has been a veterinary practice owner since 2000 and co-founded the Barrie Veterinary Emergency Clinic in 2001. As primary patient care coordinator and hospital administrator, it was important to Dr. Schmidt to be adequately trained in patient and client care as well as business needs. In 2004, she completed her Certificate of Veterinary Practice Managers diploma and graduated from the MBA program at Lakehead University.

With her work experience in veterinary community services, Dr. Schmidt is able to help clients and members of the team with personal and professional challenges and dreams. Helping others succeed in improving pet health and strengthening the human animal bond continues to be a rewarding experience.

Dr. Schmidt is very fortunate to have her immediate family residing in the Barrie and Orillia area. She lives with her husband, Dr. Bolton, and their two children, Doberman, and ponies in lovely Horseshoe Valley. The family loves spending time outdoors both in the summer and winter.
